Active” HDMI cables have a pretty messy history — there are
several important reasons AudioQuest has not previously offered
“chipped” or activity equalized cables before now.
Early generations of active cables sounded lousy compared
to AQ’s passive cables. And, while video projectors don’t need
audio, damage to an audio signal is like “a canary in a coal mine,”
an indicator of compromise at all frequencies.
More recently, the best active chips have been acoustically
transparent, but were either limited to HDMI 1.4 and 10.2Gbps,
or had reliability issues.
Finally, high performance, improved reliability, and the necessity
of being able to transfer HDMI 2.0 and 18Gbps have all come
together beautifully in these three models of AudioQuest Active
HDMI cables — long HDMI 2.0 4K+HDR cables that sound and
look every bit as good as their shorter passive siblings.
Because active cables are active, neither AudioQuest nor anyone
else can guarantee 100% compatibility with all hardware. You
might never encounter a case of incompatibility, but please —
please be sure to test the complete equipment/cable/equipment
interface before making an installation.
